Passing your driving test is just the beginning...

PASS PLUS is a six-module training syllabus designed by DSA to develop the skills and knowledge of newly qualified drivers and broaden their driving experience- building their driving skills, knowledge and hazard awareness.

Why do PASS PLUS?
Newly qualified drivers are more vulnerable than they realise. Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident within their first two years of driving, than at any time in their driving career.

The Solution- PASS PLUS offers new drivers professional instruction, helping them to-
  • gain quality driving experience safely
  • become a more skillful driver
  • develop a positive style which is both enjoyable and safe
  • reduce the risk of being involved in an accident

How long will it take?
Modules will not all take the same amount of time to cover, but each course will consist of a minimum of six hours of training. The number of sessions required will depend on the ability and progress of the individual pupil.

Module 1- Introduction (part 1) - Town Driving (part 2)

  • Space Awareness & Clearance to Others
  • Typical Feature of Urban Roads

Module 2- All Weather Driving
  • Vision- See and Be Seen
  • Skidding & Avoidance
  • Speed & Stopping distances

Module 3- Out of Town Driving & Rural Roads
  • Rural Hazards (bends/lanes)
  • Overtaking & Progress
  • Observation Skills (middle & far distance)

Module 4- Night Driving
  • Vehicle Lighting & Use
  • Speed & Stopping Distances
  • Visibility- Speed & Reacting Safely
  • Parking

Module 5- Dual Carriageways
  • Joining/ Turning/ Leaving
  • Forward Planning & Observation
  • Overtaking

Module 6- Motorways
  • Joining/ leaving
  • Forward Planning & Observation
  • Overtaking
  • Breakdowns & Safety Procedure
